When The Week Brings Rain To Weary Bones

I have just reread the few posts I’ve left here this summer, and while they are honest and true, they seem to have been peppered with the drought of worry, lamenting and inspiration searching.   While that of course has been part of my summer, I want to take a moment to share the moments of relief in the waiting, a gift of  beauty in the everyday.

I am happy to report that God has answered the prayers of us Texans, be it ever briefly.

The RAINS have come!!

This past week, I woke up to the sound of rain hitting our windowpanes.   I don’t know if that experience has ever felt more glorious!  It rained lightly only a few showers over a couple of days, but the scent of rain in the air, and the cloud cover were a welcome respite from the drought!

And even though it’s now back to sun and blistering temps, I feel a bit refreshed, as though the rain gave me a cool drink of energy and perhaps a peek into the window of seasons that will come to us in the months to come.

Its a simple sentiment, but sometimes, those are the best expressions of gratitude and grace.  I am ever thankful for the summer rain.  As Langston Hughes reminds us, “a summer rain cleanses and cools the Earth, the air and you…”

“Let the rain kiss you. Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops. Let the rain sing you a lullaby”
~Langston Hughes
