The past few months I have had the privilege of being a part of blogger/author Mary Demuth’slaunch team for her fantastic new book, “Everything – What You Give And What You Gain to Become Like Jesus”. I’ve been working my way through this wonderful book slowly and deliberately. A heartfelt work that walks the reader through the beauty and challenges of living a Christ-centered life, Mary has the gift of being non-judgmental and relational, yet challenging and edifying through her words. Each chapter deals with a specific area of life that we must give over to God in the process of a truly surrendered Christian life. (I for one, have especially resonated with the chapters on worry and people-pleasing).
So much of my life has been spent in the pursuit of God. Even as a young child, I was fascinated and consumed with knowing as much as I could about God and my spirituality, even when my parents and most of my family were not making their faith a priority. There was this internal need, even in my young self, to seek a lifesource greater than myself–to devour as much as I could regarding spirituality and a path to God. I never understood intellectually where this desire has come from, but I now in my adult years believe this burning need and desire was been placed inside of me by God Himself.
This book addresses so many facets of everyday life as it relates the Christian walk — including how we grow, brokenness, healing, worry, people-pleasing, disciplines, money, and leadership.
I love that Mary has broken down the chapters into 3 areas :
Head–How We Think
Heart–Who We Are
Hands–How We Live
“Everything” officially releases today, and Mary is celebrating with a giveaway on her blog. Another piece of this story is the journey Mary is stepping in right now.
Mary’s young daughter Julia has been recently hospitalized for serious health symptoms, and as of yet, a barrage of tests has yet to discover the problem. Would you join us in prayer for Mary, her daughter Julia and her family?
As part of my 31 days of Playlists, I have created a playlist for reading “Everything”.
