Last spring, I wrote about my first real life blogging event experience, the fantastic (in)RL event sponsored by some of the most incredible bloggers I know, the gals at Incourage. Attending the meet-up in Kansas, I met a few precious women who became my community in a city I hadn’t called home for years. Never expecting to find myself living once more in my hometown, my husband’s job placed us in a place where I had long since lost any sense of community. Through incredible meetups all over the world, the In Real LIfe event connected women worldwide who loved to blog, loved Jesus and loved community. Through these women, I met beautiful Lisa, who became my small group Bible study leader, her delightful sister Lynnette, and Lynnette’s wonderful daughter Abigail, who single-handedly helped rename, as well as redesign my blog! More importantly, God used these incredible women in my life, and they have become real life friends. Though I may not see or speak to them everyday, we have experienced community as God designed it, and I am so much more blessed because of them.
I also met my new friend Crystal at the (in)RL event. She was one of the first women I connected and chatted with before she ran our group discussion. I didn’t know until after the event that she was a part of Incourage, and has quite an incredible blog. I love that I didn’t know that before I connected with her. Her quietness, her humility, and our genuine connection was such a gift I thank God for. I am definitely an extrovert (with introverted tendencies, as crazy as that may sound), so going new places and meeting new people is not as hard for me as some, especially as it has been a part of my work and life for some time. But regardless of whether I can walk up to a stranger and have a conversation, deep, real connection that turns to friendship is rare. I am truly grateful to the folks at Incourage and Dayspring who created such a lovely experience of fellowship, and beautiful helpful products to help women engage in real life community!
In light of sharing such wonderful gifts from Incourage, and my personal experiences of online community, I thought today’s playlist should include songs about friendship and community, and never giving up on finding your ‘tribe’!
