Truly Blessed & Duly Grateful…{Counting Gifts}

I have been extra quiet here on the blog the last week or so…and truth be told, I’m finding it hard to get my ‘voice’ back, if you will.  So many blogs I am reading are full of Christmas music, preparations and decorating, but I just can’t bring myself to go there just yet…it’s still November.  This weekend, my husband and I will find a tree and decorate our home, and next week I will most assuredly be posting my Christmas/Holiday playlist, but today, I am still celebrating and marinating in the last delicious strains of fall…

The Love of My Life & I had a glorious trip to the west coast last week, as we celebrated Thanksgiving with my side of the family.    When I tell you we camped outside of Malibu, you will probably think it was MUCH more glamourous than it actually was.  (It wasnt, I promise.  But it was wonderful!)  Our family rented an RV, and by that, I mean a run-down 1970’s Winnebago  (I wish I had been smart enough to photograph it, but my usual constant-Instagramming-self was enjoying the solitude, and my hands were too cold to leave my pockets).  After a few days of camping, my Love and I took a 24 hour getaway to a breathtaking seaside town, where we wandered around a fog filled pier, walked along the beach, and ate delicious food, before returning home to the Midwest.  All of November has felt like a delicious gift– I truly have so much to be thankful for!

Counting November gifts…

**Flames flickering bright, good conversation round the fire,  clothes that smell of campfires…

**Our camping Thanksgiving tablescape

**A non-traditional Thanksgiving feast, cooked over an open fire: turkey chili, veggie lasagna, shrimp & orzo stew, salad with mangos & homemade citrus vinagrette, stuffed jalapenos, butternut squash soup, and smores for dessert…

**Sycamore leaves with heart shaped centers

**Walks on the Beach…

**Camping across the street from a beach…

**Scribbling our initials in the sand like the lovebirds we are…

**Reading the New York Times with coffee by the campfire..before we used it for kindling…

**Birks (and toes) in the sand…

**Birds flying through the sky as the camera shutter clicks…

**My Sweet Man’s silhouette..

**Sunset from the pier…

**”Make me Big!” – Tom Hanks…This actually exists on a California pier…just like the movie!

**No travel delays on a holiday weekend…

**A fantastic read and a Peppermint Mocha…

**Flaming fall foliage…

**Light through the trees…

**Yellow through a camera lense…

**Pumpkin bounty at the grocery store…

**Mumford & Sons playing in the background, whilst prepping veggies for my first batch of Winter Lentil Soup…

**The satisfaction of finishing good books: Seven by Jen Hatmaker and Surprised By Oxford by Carolyn Weber.

**Getting lost in the library…

**Discovering heirloom family Bibles…

**The voice of Sara Ramirez singing John Bucchino’s “Grateful”  (the video is poor quality, but there’s no need to watch…just close your eyes, and meditate on the beautiful lyrics and vocals of this Tony Award Winning/Greys Anatomy artist!)

What gifts are right before your eyes this season, just waiting to be counted and savored?

(I will return to finishing my Playlist series starting with my next post, but this pause for a grateful breath was sincerely needed.  I’m linking today with Ann & Shannan.)

  1. I enjoyed my “trip” like a fly on the wall through your Thanksgiving trip. Made me smile : ) Your opening quote reminds me of Brother Lawrence and his practice of the presence of God.
    Blessings, Mimi

    1. Thanks so much for reading! Your compliment to my photo means a lot–as I love your photos! (And the flower canvas you had made recently!) :)
