31 Days of Favorites – Coming in October

For the past 2 years, I have linked up with one of my favorite bloggers, Myquillyn, known to the online world as The Nester, for her 31 Days blog series.  Bloggers of every shape and size are invited to join in, as we pick a topic to write about for 31 days straight in the month of October.

The first year I attempted this linkup, I wrote on a topic that was difficult for me to process online–31 Days of Active Waiting.   Many of the posts are poorly written and ramble on incessantly.  I haven’t put up a direct link to these posts, because I honestly don’t believe they are the best examples of good content, but I still have them in my archives because they are part of my writing history.  They also chronicle an interesting time in my life, that looking back, I’ve experienced much more than just in that season.

Last year’s 31 Days series was a favorite passion for me – 31 Days of Playlists.

I have been a musician for most of my life, and inherited “the spiritual gift of the mixtape” (a direct quote from my best friend) from my Dad.  I poured my heart and soul into those posts, but in true procrastinator fashion, didn’t make it through the entire 31 days.  (Or rather, in 31 Days, I published 23 or so posts).  I decided to make playlists a regular thing on the blog, and continued my playlist-ing with an ongoing series, Mixtape Monday.  (You can check out all of these playlists here.)

Unlike last year’s series, which I decided on almost immediately, I hemmed and hawed this time trying to pick a worthy topic.  I’ve realized some things about myself through writing these posts.  I’m not someone who can churn out long, beautiful diatribes on deep subjects day after day.  I wish quality prose content poured out of me like water, but I’ve learned I write slowly.

I’ve also realized I love sharing resources.  Whether its interviews, lists, advice and wisdom gleaned and collected in one place–I like to share finds and discoveries as much as I like finding those resources and reads on other blogs.

Thus, my upcoming 31 Days Series: 31 Days Of Favorites.

I’ll be sharing more details about the goodies you can expect in this series next week.  I can tell you now to definitely expect more than just lists – they’ll be interviews, perhaps a linkup or two, and some giveaways!

If you want to learn more about linking up, check out the Nester’s tips on writing for 31 Days, as well as her sister Emily’s writing wisdom.

If you are joining in, what will you be writing about for 31 Days?

  1. This sounds great! I tried to do a 31 Days series last year (31 Days of Eating Unprocessed) but I didn’t plan ahead enough and it was impossible to do that many posts. I won’t be doing one this year (unless I do 31 Days of Things that Make My 3-Year-Old Mad .. I could write one of those posts every hour!) But I do still add to my 31 Days series occasionally… it will be done eventually!

    1. Thanks for saying hello! 🙂 I agree, ’31 Days’ is a hard series to write – especially considering my October is usually one of my busiest fall months. Last year, I added to my playlist series through the end of the year, and loyal readers of the series (to my surprise) still read it! I think its great that you’ll add to the series gradually as you have the time. 🙂

  2. I’ve learned things and seen insights about myself through blogging and that’s one of the things I really love about it. I’ve learned thankfulness for many of the things in my life and learned appreciation for who God made me to be.

Wishing you the best on your 31 series!!

    1. Loved hearing about what you’ve learned blogging. Its such an almost strange medium to me – blogging. I am constantly surprised at the things I love about it, and how much I learn about myself doing it. Thanks for your well wishes on my 31 Days posts – are you writing along with 31 Days this year?

    1. Woo Hoo! I just saw your reveal, and I was a little surprised – I thought you were going with the other idea. 🙂 (You weren’t sure last we spoke). I think your series will be FABULOUS – can’t wait to read and follow along with you this month! How awesome is God that we are going to have a full circle moment! I ‘met’ you (online) through this series last year, and at the end of the month – we’ll be roomies at an amazing blogging conference! So grateful for you, friend!

  3. Hi Sarah, I remember making a comment here the last time I was here, but I see it has disappeared. I remember saying I couldn’t do a 31 days and then I said maybe I will try! I thought while making the comment that since I paint every day, I should do a 31 Days of HeARTworks. Well, we shall see if I can manage that!!! I already made my button and put it on my blog. And it’s all because of you! Patsy

    1. I don’t know why that comment isn’t here anymore. I’m so glad you have linked up Patsy! And I am HONORED that you would do a ’31 Days’ series inspired because you read my blog – wow! I’ve been having trouble with the inlinknz widget, so perhaps that’s why the comment got deleted. Thanks so much for being faithful and linking up with Sacro Speco! I’ll look forward to reading your series!
