I’ll Be Home For Christmas

It’s barely into the evening hours, and we’ve already been driving through country backroads in multiple states in the pouring rain.  Lightning strikes have lit our path more times than we want to count, but thankfully, the flooding in the fields beside the road hasn’t reached our path…just yet.

Though hardly weather for the Christmas holidays, we’ll gladly take this journey to reach the warm hearth of home.  In about an hour and a half – Lord willing – we will pull into the driveway of my husband’s sweet parents, where Southern accents,  a roaring fire, hot tea and a warm bed await…

 {Today, I’m honored to be guest posting at the blog homes of my online friend Mimi,  State of Hospitality & Sweeter Than Honey Ministry.    Join me there, and read the rest of the the story…}

Day 11…Favorite Scripture ~ My Life Verse

I never expected such a well known passage of Scripture to become my life verse.  I honestly can’t even remember exactly when I ‘claimed’ it, if you will.  I think the Lord has shown me over and over how important it is to truly delight in Him.  He has surprised me and gifted me with so many of my heart’s desires – including the most wonderful ones I didn’t even know I had – but without question, they all came into being out of my walk with God.

This verse fills me with hope.  This verse reminds me I am fearfully and wonderfully made.  This verse reminds me I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  This verse assures me I have no need of a spirit of fear.

This verse draws me back to all of the other promises, assurances, commandments and covenants Scripture holds for me.

Do you have a life verse?

The Lights of New York & Spiritual Family

Today I flew across the country to see my people.  My kindreds.  My spiritual family–given to me by God to stand in the gap.  i took some of my first full breaths of peace and relaxation of my summer.

My heart is so full tonight.  I sat and had soul deep words with the woman who has been one of the greatest influences in my spiritual and artistic life.  I hugged my friend I love like a brother, and listened to him share the sheer beauty and strength of his heart.  We ate shrimp drenched in decadent sauce and red chiles, and cool crab meat immersed in a bed of slaw and green apples.  We devoured sweet potato sushi rolls and small pockets filled with avocado, lobster and flakes of fish and ginger.    We walked block after city block and talked and listened and slurped cool frozen yogurt.  We sat on a rooftop overlooking a myriad of twinkling midtown lights and soaked up the space and the mood while summer gave us the rare gift of a breeze.

I am more than happy.  My soul is being filled with the best kind of love and joy.  This trip is true grace – pure and simple.

And it’s just begun.

Soli Deo Gloria.

For When You Have To Do The Hard Things {Mixtape Monday}

Yesterday it poured buckets of water from the sky and I’m pretty sure the scent of summer rain in the air began to help heal my grieving heart.

Today I’m doing hard things, like writing an obituary, and planning the ways to say goodbye to a loved one.  I hope you aren’t doing things that hurt this much, but perhaps you are.  Maybe you have a doctor’s appointment that is making your stomach lurch and drop, or you are saying goodbye to love or you’re stuck in the maddening limbo of waiting.   Or quite possibly, you’re just in the midst of the heaviness of the everyday, using every little bit of energy you can muster to get through it.

Wherever you are, today’s playlist speaks to doing the hard things.  It’s music for both the difficult and the mundane moments of time.  It’s melodies for letting go and hurting and discovering you are enough.
